The Margaret Law Fire Safety Award is a new annual global award to recognise the outstanding contribution of undergraduate or postgraduate students worldwide who are advancing fire safety solutions through projects or research.

Dr Margaret Law MBE was a pioneering fire scientist who started the discipline of Fire Safety Engineering at Arup 50 years ago. To celebrate this milestone, we are launching this award to inspire a new generation, to continue her legacy through the practical application of scientific understanding and technical rigour. We look forward to recognising individuals who embody these values through their collaborative behaviour and influence to create fire-safe, sustainable solutions for all.

The award is open to both groups and individuals who have conducted research applicable to fire safety, regardless of their field of study. Submissions should demonstrate how you overcame the challenges of the research or project and describe the impact of your work. This could include reference to safety equity, fire safety justice, resilience, sustainability, use of digital tools and data, new technologies, new hazards, and the circular economy.

The winning entry will receive £1,000, with the 2nd and 3rd place entries receiving £500 and £250, respectively.
